Brief (A tiny "ledge" shuffled into a deck by a cheater so that his accomplice can cut it at the prearranged location;
a card offset by a barely perceptible fraction of an inch but able to be found by touch when cut.).
To cut on (or to) the ledge is to hit the brief.
